Webinar: Digital Service Act & Digital Markets Act
Friday, Mar 26, 2021 From 10:00 to 11:30
in cooperation with Slovak Alliance for Innovation Economy SAPIE
AGENDA
The Slovak Alliance for Innovation Economy (SAPIE) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia (AmCham) as the business associations call for strengthening the Digital Single Market across the European Union and continuously appeal for building a policy environment supporting innovation and digitisation in CEE. Realising that the projected Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act will directly affect us as an industry, we are obliged to voice our views in regard to development of these regulations. We believe a productive conversation is required so that we are able to accurately assess the impact of regulations on Central and Eastern European business.
We are aware that the online world offers a huge space for economic growth and living standards. At a time when, as a result of the pandemic, several businesses have had to move to the digital space, the European Union also needs to respond to the growing importance of digital commerce and prepare a favorable regulatory environment in this area, where fragmentation of national policies still exists. In addition, we emphasize reinforcement of the fundamental rights and freedoms for entrepreneurs and legal certainty. This must be ensured, on the one hand, for businesses using the services of the digital economy, as well as for buyers and the digital innovators industry itself. It is precisely these factors that we must keep in mind when trying to update European legislation, especially one that has the ambition to introduce new, harmonized rules for the protection of competition in the digital space.
It is essential that the new legislative measures being prepared, especially at European Union level, aim to remove barriers and create a true digital single market and to remove obstacles to the rapid use of technological innovation. This will enable Slovakia and the European Union to catch up with leaders in technological development
