Data in Transatlantic Area: Free Flow, Cooperation or Competition?

Thursday, Apr 22, 2021 From 15:00 to 16:30

online

workshop organized by EURACTIV Slovakia

Newly presented European Data Strategy aims to create 9 common data spaces within the EU. However, from the beginning it had been clear that building a data fortress around the block will neither protect, nor support EU’s digital sector. With the new administration in the White House and with Brussels becoming keener for collaborations, new path has been explored in the last months and more is yet to come in the area of digital cooperation.

Moreover, preparations for the resumption of negotiations between Brussels and Washington on the protection of personal data, flowing across the Atlantic, are in full swing. Last summer, the Court of Justice of the EU has restricted the transfer of European data to the United States (EU-US Privacy Shield) for possible monitoring laws. Both American and European companies are exploring their options.
