Letter to Members by Ronald Blasko
Dear AmCham Member, Cambridge Dictionary selected “perseverance” as its
Word of the Year 2021. Wendalyn Nichols, Cambridge Dictionary Publishing
Manager, said: “Just as it takes perseverance to land a rover on Mars,
it takes perseverance to face the challenges and disruption to our lives
from COVID-19, climate disasters, political instability and conflict.”
The Dictionary webpage also says that “Perseverance was chosen as Word of the Year not only because of the high volume of searches. This word captures the undaunted will of people across the world to never give up, despite the many challenges of 2021.”
The persistence which you all have been showing in your daily business and personal dealings with the pandemic bears witness to the lines above.
However, the past year we were also reminded of the fact that neither country, nor company, however strong, can deal successfully with big problems like stopping the pandemic, fighting the climate change, or combating disinformation alone. People, businesses, and governments across sectors, regions, and continents must work together on what economist LSE director Minouche Shafik calls: “a new social contract fit for the 21st century.”
And that is what we at AmCham Slovakia do. We bring together small and big enterprises, local ones and multinationals, NGOs and public institutions, young graduates and senior professionals, those working with either of 3Hs, i.e. hands, heads or hearts so that we can come up with the best possible solutions for challenges you, our valued members, and we as the society face.
You can learn in more detail what 2021 brought to the AmCham Slovakia community in the graphics below.
Despite many complex challenges we all will have to overcome, for the year ahead of us we remain optimistic. Because what can you do with pessimism?
Constant hope, optimism, and perseverance will help us to adjust and shape our future.
Stay with us, 3Hs Community, so that we can continue jointly to make a real positive impact. “Because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” (Steve Jobs)
Thank you for your valued membership!
I wish you a healthy and prosperous year 2022!
