HBRP Webinar: The Heart of Business
Wednesday, May 26, 2021 From 19:00 to 20:00
in cooperation with Harvard Business Review Press
“It was December in Minnesota. It was cold and we were supposed to die."
This is how Hubert Joly describes his first days as CEO of Best Buy, a
job most thought he was crazy to accept. In the face of an existential
threat from Amazon, Joly did something remarkable: he saved Best Buy,
then remade it into a profitable company that was consistently rated as
one of the most desirable businesses to work for.
With compelling stories from Joly’s three-decade leadership journey, the
book charts Joly’s transformation from a young, hard-charging McKinsey
consultant to the leader who turned around a company by focusing on what
he calls “human magic.”
He shares what it means to “lead with heart” and challenge assumptions
about the practical mechanics of management. It worked at Best Buy, and
Joly is ready to proclaim that it’s not just the right way to lead but
also the profitable way. It is the very heart of business.
Hubert Joly is the former chairman and CEO of Best Buy. He is on the
boards of Johnson & Johnson and Ralph Lauren and is a senior
lecturer at Harvard Business School.
