Digital Committee
The AmCham Digital Committee represents the collective views of member companies on key issues related to digitalization and digital transformation. As the world progresses toward an interconnected digital future, the committee positions itself as a trusted expert partner for both private and public stakeholders, helping to navigate this complex transition.
To ensure ongoing relevance, the committee highlights and addresses emerging topics and challenges in digital transformation. By drawing on the expertise of its diverse membership, which spans various industries and sectors, we create opportunities for meaningful dialogue through committee meetings, closed-door sessions, and content-driven events. This approach enables us to explore digital transformation from multiple perspectives and bring actionable insights to the forefront.
In addition to engaging our members, the committee maintains an open line of communication with public institutions. We regularly collaborate with public sector representatives and decision-makers, providing them with valuable insights drawn from our members’ operational experiences. Our aim is to contribute to the development of practical strategies and policies that reflect the needs and potential of the market and its stakeholders.
The committee is also actively involved in commenting on proposed legislation and providing well-researched recommendations through position papers, ensuring that the voice of our members is heard in shaping the future of digital policy.
Priorities of the Digital Committee
Continuity
and longevity are at the core of the Digital Committee's priorities. We
are committed to ensuring that the topics we bring into focus remain
relevant and impactful over time. Below are the key building blocks of
our priorities:
Priorities for the Digital Committee in the year 2024 - Following the Digital Committee meeting on December 20, 2023, a detailed overview of jointly agreed key topics was created. These topics will guide the Digital Committee throughout 2024 in terms of focus, scope, and priorities. By addressing these areas, we aim to foster collaboration and drive digital innovation among our members.
Commandments for a sucessful crosssectoral cooperation in the area of digitalization
- The AmCham Digital Committee leadership met with stakeholders from
the public sector, business, NGOs, and research to discuss the Future of
Digitalization in Slovakia. During a roundtable, major barriers to
Slovakia’s digital transformation were identified, leading to the
creation of the Commandments for Successful Cross-Sectoral Cooperation.
These principles emphasize the importance of collaboration, long-term
planning, digital skills development, and upskilling in public
administration. Key points include establishing transparent governance,
fostering public-private partnerships, and standardizing procurement
processes. The aim is to build trust and cooperation, driving Slovakia's
digital advancement.
10 commandments for the Digital Country - The 10 Commandments outlines ten principles we believe would help to accelerate Slovakia's digital transformation, focusing on the adoption of new technologies to drive economic growth and improve public services. Key areas include enhancing eGovernment, safeguarding digital services, managing government data, advancing e-health, and fostering business innovation. The document stresses the urgency of swift technology implementation and continuous workforce upskilling to ensure Slovakia remains competitive globally.
Digital Everything – Creation of the New Galaxy Conference
(Part of the Festival of the Future)
During the first day of the festival, we explored the economy and AI through megatrends, discussed the evolving world of regulations, and addressed cybersecurity, drawing parallels to space exploration. While AI is not a new topic, the conference offered fresh perspectives on its implications for society, the economy, security, and the future labor market. We emphasized the need for robust cybersecurity to safeguard the fast-paced, connected digital ecosystem, which is the foundation of this new "digital galaxy."
The Challenges in Cybersecurity – Implementation Perspectives from the EU and the US
This event brought together European experts to discuss key cybersecurity challenges. Ambassador Petra Vargová, Slovakia’s Permanent Representative to the EU, opened the conference by addressing the complexity of modern cyber threats and the financial impacts of breaches. Lajos Szabo, Managing Director of Hungary's National Cyber Security Centre, also shared insights on the urgent need for more cybersecurity skills, likening cybersecurity to "riding a bicycle – you have to keep pedaling to keep up." Key Takeaways:
- Flexible regulations, with GDPR as a model
- 95% of cyber-attacks are financially motivated
- Balancing new laws with their associated costs
- Benefits of unified cybersecurity standards across the EU
