Members of the AmCham Healthcare committee organised an event for the respective public sector authorities responsible for health data policies and strategies. On December 13, 2023 the event “Access to and Enhancement of Health Data Usability - international experience” concerning access and use of health data approaches abroad took place. 

Policy experts from Danish Health Data Authority and FINDATA - Social and Health Data Permit Authority provided valuable insights on numerous issues such as the role and scope of their health data authorities, management and system overview, necessary pre-requisites to be implemented in order to have an efficient access to healthcare data and on the aspects of the secure infrastructure where the information are accessible. Furthermore they described a process in their countries of data access from beginning submitting application for data until the end of pathway – getting data.

The main takeaways are: there are more options and approaches how to address the public interest needs to work more with health data for the public good and scientific purposes (no one size fits all approach); even in the GDPR legal framework the health data can be used in a safety and secure way in order to provide benefits for the society and that any change towards can mindset does not happen from night till morning (building awareness about the value of data and data literacy tirelessly is crucial).

Since AmCham is highly committed towards creating better and pro-innovative data policies, limited not only to health data, we valued the cooperation and open communication with the public sector and other stakeholders in order to share best practices, improve the level of healthcare in Slovakia as well as Slovak health system in general via providing sectoral and experts views and to help address the pressing and most relevant issues.
