Without Dialogue, There Is No Trust: Consolidation Needs Transparency

The Rule of Law Initiative emphasizes that only dialogue and a transparent process can bring solutions that strengthen our country’s competitiveness in Europe.

Almost a year ago, representatives of the Rule of Law Initiative emphasized at a press conference the need for expert and transparent dialogue in the preparation of consolidation measures. Following this, we repeatedly sent proposals to the government and requested meetings with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance. Despite these efforts, systematic expert discussion has still not developed.

Today, the same scenario repeats itself: the new consolidation package comes without discussion, non-transparently, and without space for proper comments. Such a procedure is contrary to the principles of the rule of law and undermines trust in the business environment, the stability of companies, and jobs.

A positive signal is the historic agreement between employers and trade unions on joint consolidation proposals. It proves that expert consensus is possible. We believe the government will take this stance into account and involve key partners in the creation of measures.

As we pointed out already a year ago, the method of designing consolidation is in conflict with the principles of the rule of law. Watch the report from the 2024 press conference: According to entrepreneurs, the way consolidation is being proposed contradicts the principles of the rule of law.

Slovakia needs responsible and sustainable consolidation, not quick and uncoordinated steps. Only dialogue and a transparent process can bring solutions that strengthen our country’s competitiveness in Europe.
