Join the AT&T Policy Forum for a virtual event celebrating International Girls in ICT Day 2022, focused on inspiring the next generation of women innovators in the tech and creative industries. The event will kick off with welcome remarks from Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Development Bureau, which will be followed by a keynote address from Mónica Aspe, CEO, AT&T Mexico. Aspe will share advice and lessons learned in her journey to becoming the first female CEO of a Mexican telecommunications company, as well as highlight the range of career opportunities in the ICT industry and the importance of gender equality in closing the digital divide. Rina Lumezi, Marketing Communications Manager, AT&T Global Network Services Slovakia, will emcee the full event.
The second half hour will be a panel discussion on “Breaking Barriers with Careers in ICTs,” moderated by Mya De La Rosa, Women in Science Central America Participant, Girl Up. Panelists will include Daphne Dentz, Senior Vice President, Emerging Formats, Mastering & Content Acquisition, Content Creative Services, Warner Bros. Discovery; Rita Marty, Vice President, Security Architecture, AT&T; and Lynette M. Aguilar, Vice President and General Manager – North Texas, AT&T. These leaders will reflect on their current roles, as well as successes and challenges they have faced throughout their careers, while answering audience-submitted questions along the way. Participants will learn about opportunities for technical and creative careers in the ICT sector, and be motivated by the ways in which innovation drives success across STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) fields.
Held every fourth Thursday in April since 2011, International Girls in ICT Day aims to support the creation of a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider education and careers in the information and communication technology (ICT) and tech field more broadly, and promotes gender equality and bridging the digital divide. Since its inception, 377,000 girls and young women have taken part in more than 11,400 International Girls in ICT Day celebrations in 171 countries. International Girls in ICT Day is hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Development Bureau, led by Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin. Elected in 2018, Director Bogdan-Martin is the first woman to ever hold an elected senior leadership position in the more than 150 years of the organization’s history.
