Letter to Members
In recent weeks, public debate has been dominated by the government’s
new consolidation package. As AmCham Slovakia, we fully recognize the
importance of responsible fiscal policy for the country’s stability and
long-term growth.
At the same time, we continue to stress that such measures must be designed in a transparent and predictable way, in close dialogue with the business community - a principle we advocate strongly also within the Rule of Law Initiative.
We want to assure you that AmCham Slovakia has been actively engaged on this front:
- Together with our members, we voiced opposition to the proposed digital tax and we are pleased to confirm that this measure has been taken off the table. In addition, we are liaising with the office of the State Secretary at MIRRI, who initiated the proposal, to arrange a discussion with our members on this topic.
- Through the Rule of Law Initiative, we prepared a joint statement highlighting the urgent need for transparency and dialogue in the consolidation process (read more here).
- We are also in intensive discussions with the Ministry of Health on pharmaceutical legislation, ensuring that the sector’s perspectives are heard and reflected in the decision-making process.
- In an interview for Hospodárske noviny, economist Viliam Páleník commented on the current challenges of public finance consolidation. In this context, he referenced an analysis by AmCham Slovakia based on a survey conducted among member companies in the first quarter of 2025. The results highlight the need for systemic, predictable, and consistent measures that take into account the impact on the business environment.
- On October 15, AmCham Vice President Christiana Serugová will join the expert conference titled “Consolidation 2026 as a Guarantee in the Fight Against Tax Fraud,” held at the invitation of the Government Office of the Slovak Republic. The conference is professionally endorsed by the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic.
- We are preparing a draft statement on the economic impacts of the consolidation, in cooperation with Slovenská sporiteľňa to provide data-driven arguments and recommendations.
We highly value your input - if you or your company have specific concerns, suggestions, or recommendations related to the consolidation package or other policy initiatives, please do not hesitate to share them with us. Your feedback is essential to strengthen our joint voice and ensure effective advocacy.
