Branding: why do we need it?
Quite often we define ourselves not by who we are, but rather by who we aren´t. We struggle to stand out in a crowd, raising our voices to be heard in the din, dressing differently than the masses (fashion, jewelry, automobiles and gadgets are intrinsically woven into the pattern). We outline our unique personality by being at variance with other humans, by creating our own “brand names”. Thus World Champions, renowned scientists, inventors, Oscar and Pulitzer-prize winners, chiefs of states and governments are formed.
Slovakia has no image
Peter Littmann is a widely respected marketing and communication expert who earned his reputation through his work for several major international brands. He lives in Hamburg where he also serves as the Slovak Honorary Consul. He has been appointed by Minister Lajčák as an advisor in the ongoing Brand Slovakia campaign. His opinions are fresh, often critical, but clearly optimistic and inspiring.
A Smart City – The Place People Love
The Smart Cities concept should not be seen as the mere implementation of innovative technologies, but rather as a holistic approach. Even the most high-tech, energy-efficient city would not be considered smart if its inhabitants and tourists didn´t feel comfortable there. A discussion about smart urban development should always begin first of all with the people and their needs.
The future of public transportation
Affordable car prices and hectic lifestyles have caused the ratio between those using public transportation and those using private cars to fall from year to year. This is not only a problem in Slovakia, but also in cities all over the world.
Košice – not just “IT City”
What is Košice famous for? The older generation may say metallurgical production; some will refer to its rich history and beautiful sightseeing, or perhaps the marathon run. On the other hand, the younger generation may without hesitation say - IT City!
Košice: A year after
In 2013 the city of Košice was awarded the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture. We talked to Iveta Niňajová, who has been involved in the development of Košice as a tourist destination since 2010, about the impact this has had on Košice so far, as well as the potential that lies ahead.
EU funds - what to expect, what to avoid
Now is the time to start planning your priorities for the next seven years. The new programming period has opened fresh financing opportunities for various business activities.
Immovable property as a tool for regional development
Inflow of domestic and foreign investment in real estate acquisition and development plus improvement of existing structures must be considered as a necessary tool and source for regional development.
Big data serving towns and villages
We live in an information age. According to IBM, 90% of all data in the world has been generated over the last two years*, providing us with a vast knowledge base. How do we obtain meaningful information from this enormous pool? How do we sort, analyze and interpret it so we can benefit from it in our daily life?
University of Prešov and its importance in the region
Prešov is the third largest city in Slovakia, and the center of the Šariš Region. It is a city with an attractive history, charming scenery and historical jewels of architecture. Thanks to high levels of education and culture, it has earned such names as Little Leipzig or Athens upon Torysa.
Outstanding December concerts
The concert highlight in Bratislava this December should be the first Christmas concert of the famous Slovak tenor Miroslav Dvorský, but there will actually be two highlights: the second will be one of the world’s best countertenors Max Emanuel Cenčić, both in The Slovak Philharmonic.
