Tourism and regional development
Quite often we define ourselves not by who we are, but rather by who we aren´t. We struggle to stand out in a crowd, raising our voices to be heard in the din, dressing differently than the masses (fashion, jewelry, automobiles and gadgets are intrinsically woven into the pattern). We outline our unique personality by being at variance with other humans, by creating our own “brand names”. Thus World Champions, renowned scientists, inventors, Oscar and Pulitzer-prize winners, chiefs of states and governments are formed.
Peter Littmann is a widely respected marketing and communication expert who earned his reputation through his work for several major international brands. He lives in Hamburg where he also serves as the Slovak Honorary Consul. He has been appointed by Minister Lajčák as an advisor in the ongoing Brand Slovakia campaign. His opinions are fresh, often critical, but clearly optimistic and inspiring.
The Smart Cities concept should not be seen as the mere implementation of innovative technologies, but rather as a holistic approach. Even the most high-tech, energy-efficient city would not be considered smart if its inhabitants and tourists didn´t feel comfortable there. A discussion about smart urban development should always begin first of all with the people and their needs.
