Unlocking the Momentum

When I stepped into my new role at AmCham Slovakia this June, I expected to meet engaged business leaders and interesting projects. What I did not fully anticipate was the sheer scope and influence of our community. In just a few months, through conversations with members and partners, I have come to appreciate how strong AmCham’s position really is, and how central innovation and regional development are to our shared agenda.

This realization is especially meaningful in the context of Eastern Slovakia. I am proud to be part of an organization that not only recognizes the region’s potential, but actively works to map it, nurture it, and turn it into tangible progress. Our ongoing initiative to map the potential of Eastern Slovakia represents exactly that: a structured, step-by-step effort to unlock opportunities, day by day, in close cooperation with local stakeholders.

Supporting the Košice Region Innovation Center and serving as a jury member at Startup Connect 2 reaffirmed for me the importance of connecting talent, ideas, and opportunity. This is where AmCham’s unique network truly shines. Bridging business and academia, creating pathways for innovation to move from concept to impact.

On June 4, we organized the Future of Eastern Slovakia: Data, Vision, Decisions event in Košice. I was impressed by the energy and quality of discussion and the willingness to share experiences and look for solutions. It was obvious that people care deeply about public affairs and the region’s direction. There is momentum here; real, visible, and driven by individuals who want to shape the future.

Equally inspiring has been the openness and willingness of our members to collaborate. Across meetings, I have felt strong support and a genuine readiness to co-create initiatives with meaningful regional impact. This spirit of partnership is essential if we want to translate ambition into results.

One of my biggest “aha” moments came during a visit to Volvo’s new facility. Hearing directly from top management about both their plans and the challenges they overcame offered a rare, transparent perspective on what it takes to deliver a strategic investment of this scale. It reinforced an important message: successful regional development is not accidental, it is the result of vision, persistence, and cooperation.

Eastern Slovakia is on a promising journey. With the right ecosystem, strong partnerships, and sustained focus, I am convinced we can continue moving forward, step by step, toward a more innovative and competitive region. I am excited to be part of this journey, and even more motivated to help make it happen.
